The Church at Philippi was able to do a few things that God was particularly fond of.  And when we do things that please God, He notices.  And He is quick to reward those things.

Jesus talks in three different parables in Luke chapter fifteen.  Each one of these parables speaks to a level of love that God has for us.  It shows us the love that we are to have towards the people around us, that have yet to come into contact with the love of God themselves. 

Why does Jesus tell us to teach them to obey all that He has commanded?  What does this obedience mean for me? “Faith never knows where it is being led, but it loves and knows the One who is leading.”   – Oswald Chambers  

Continuing on with the great commission.  We see that Jesus tells us to baptize people.  The intriguing part is what Jesus is not saying.  In what He doesn’t say, we start to understand what our role is in all of this.

Jesus wants us all to be disciples of His.  He wants us to be followers who not only embrace, but assist in the spreading of His teaching.  One of the best parts of being a disciple is that He doesn’t expect us to do it alone.  He promises that He will help us.  

Jesus called James and John “sons of thunder”.  It seemed like at times they forgot who they were and who they were with.  Is it possible that we have a little bit of James and John in each of us?  If so what are we to do with that?

Ephesians 5:25 says that Christ loves His Church so much that He gave His life up for her.  If the Church is that important to Jesus.  How important should it be to me?  What does that lead me to do?

Matthew 5:16 says “In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”  The intent of the Church is to SHINE for the whole world to see more of God, and to praise His name.
